T minus 21 days until departure

21 days feel like so long away; they will pass by soon enough.

My main concern today was finding a good pair of walking shoes. I wanted a durable pair, yet light weight, with a strong sole and comfortable feel.
My search was probably going to draw me to a sporting good store, but my store search was narrowed when looking for another item: a passport belt.
My mom spent a considerable time the day before talking about the risk of RFID theft with passports.

Turns out, only so much truth to the idea.

I bought into this concern which then took me to the Internet, looking for a passport belt. One of the first links, to my present surprise, was at REI. Looking further into REI's selection, I found their collection of travel accessories rather expansive. Knowing their reputation for hiking boots, I was certain about finding a good walking shoe at their store.
Making my way there this afternoon, I quickly found a money belt collection. Looking at the items, I chose plastic, yet light weight, belt over the soft silk, but heavier and bulkier, belt. Best of all, the plastic one was RFID protecting.

Good news for mom.

Turning my attention to shoes, I weighed three different pairs. The first pair was an ugly leather walking shoe, but too wide in the toe (the REI representative mentioned this brand was known for wide shoes. They do live up to their reputation!). The second pair was lighter, but had a number of pressure points; overall not bad. The third pair featured a comfortable right shoe, but a poorly constructed and uncomfortable left shoe. Getting a second pair, I mixed shoes to find a good pair. Overall, the latter pair fit and won me over. I will have a good pair of Patagonia shoes for walking around Spain!

(This Is the most I've ever spent talking about shoes!).

Trying to get skype and google talk set up so the parents and friends can communicate with me.
Also started a brief search of apartments in Madrid. Look more into that tomorrow.

Overall, a productive day! Looking forward to some more research tomorrow!
